Ghazal# 2 Bang-e-Dara Poet: Allama Iqbal Singer:Farida Khanum *********************** ** Introduction This ghazal is the only one in Bang-i-Dara in style of Daagh Dehlavi. Allama had written several other ghazals in the same style but excluded them from this book at the time of its compilation. However, such ghazals were very few and the above piece of information may be only somebody's conjecture. Allamah Iqbal was a philosopher more than a poet. The style of ghazal, particularly the classical ghazal, is very much restricted by the constraints of rhyming and the length of the poem. It is not suitable for conveying the extensive and deep thoughts which he wanted to convey. Hence there are very few ghazals in the classical style of Daagh. This ghazal is typically mystic and describes the attributes of the Love of God in the language of materialistic love.the actual ghazal was about three times to the lenth present in Bang-e-dara but Allama removed most of couplets in Bang e dara. i ll try to write rest of couplets here too Reg Tauseef ************** *********** Translation and transliteration Na Aate, Hamein Ismein Takrar Kya Thi? Magar Waada Karte Huwe Aar Kya Thi? If you had not come I would have had no occasion for contention? But what reluctance in making the promise was with me? Tumhare Payami Ne Sab Raaz Khola; Khata Ismein Bande Ki Sarkaar Kya Thi? Your messenger disclosed every secret O Lord!What fault of Man in this was? Bhari Bazm Mein Apne Aashiq Ko Tadha; Teri Aankh Masti Mein Hoshiyaar Kya Thi? You recognized Your Lover in the full assembly. How alert Your eye in the middle of the ecstasy was! Ta'mmul To Tha Unke Aane Mein, Qasid! Magar Ye Bata Tarz-e-Inkaar Kya Thi? True! Reluctant was he to come, O messenger! But tell me what the manner of denial was? Kheenche Khud ba Khud Jaanib-e-Toor, Moosa; Kashish Teri Aye Shokh-e-Deedar Kya Thi? Moses was effortlessly attracted to Toor! How strong, O Zeal your attraction was!? Kahin Zikr Rehta Hai Iqbal Tera! Fasoon Tha Koi, Teri Guftaar Kya Thi! Your fame continues somewhere, O Iqbal! Some magic, not your speech it was! ************************** Urdu Script نہ آتے ، ہميں اس ميں تکرار کيا تھي مگر وعدہ کرتے ہوئے عار کيا تھي تمھارے پيامي نے سب راز کھولا خطا اس ميں بندے کي سرکار کيا تھي بھري بزم ميں اپنے عاشق کو تاڑا تري آنکھ مستي ميں ہشيار کيا تھي! تامل تو تھا ان کو آنے ميں قاصد مگر يہ بتا طرز انکار کيا تھي کھنچے خود بخود جانب طور موسي کشش تيري اے شوق ديدار کيا تھي! کہيں ذکر رہتا ہے اقبال تيرا فسوں تھا کوئي ، تيري گفتار کيا تھي *********************** ** Hindi न आत़े हमें इस मैं तकरार क्या थी मगर वडा करते होवे आर क्या थी तुम्हारे पयामी ने सब राज़ खोला ; खता इसमें बन्दे की सरकार क्या थी? तम्मुl तो था उनke आने में, कासिद! मगर ये बता तर्ज़-इ-इनकार क्या थी? खींचे खुद ब खुद जानिब-ए-टूर, मूसा; कशिश तेरी आए शोक-ए-दीदार क्या थी? कहीं ज़िक्र रहता है इकबाल तेरा! फसूं था कोई, तेरी गुफ्तार क्या थी!
