Ghazals are poetry and poetry needs musical composition when expressed in vocal melody and not mere recitation. A singer's rendition in a film song and have a copyright to that composed music but a ghazal written by a poet today or centuries past has no musical attribute. If Begum Akhtar had been assigned a particular melody by herself or any musician to record this ghazal of Late Shakeel Badayuni and you are accustomed to that rendition, you can not expect Farida Khanum to replicate it exactly.

@ajitsuttatti as far as begum akhter ..there is no doubt ...her ghazlal is the bench mark ..and will stay that way

Both are good. each one sings in her way even the soor is alike. So listen to both... and u will enjoy. Why this obsession of competition.

This song is a classic in every sense. I must say that Begum Akhtar ji has immortalised this song with her soulful rendition. Farida Khanum has sung it well too but is miles away in matching to the sorrow and depth that Begum Akhtar has put into the song. As for this performance, I really got very irritated with the hand movements of Farida Khannum when she uttered the word "Daghaaaaa na de". Unhone fizool mein un do lafzon ko zaroorat se zyada kheencha hai....

No comparison to Begum Akhtar Ghazal, She is very good singer but Begum Shaiba beat her by many lengths.
