The Poet: Athar Nafees اطہر نفیس
The Singer: Farida Khanum فریدہ خانم was born in 1935 in Calcutta, West Bengal, India. She was raised in Amritsar, Punjab, India, and moved to Pakistan after 1947. She started learning singing at a young age from her older sister, Mukhtar Begum. She learned music from Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan استاد عاشق علی خان of the Patiala Gharana (Family). Her first public concert was in 1950. She is considered to be one of the foremost singers of Urdu ghazal. She resides in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

It is a masterpiece. What else can one say about it but feel the emotions pouring out into your whole being. The words so great and the rendering of them by this beautiful singer is a complete experience of a human being's existence which can through feeling loss at times and finding joy at others. Athar Nafees has immersed himself in a moment of time for himself and plunged us all in forever. I always feel his hurt and my own and surely of all others on listening to it to this ghazal.
